#LIVCHE Matchday Wk 3 Recap | OLSC Toronto

Yikes…where to begin on this one?  One point won or two points lost?  I suspect there will be people in both camps but one thing we can all agree on: Matchdays are back and Toronto Reds are making the most of it at our new home, The Madison Avenue Pub. Read below for more updates and pictures.

MATCHDAY – WEEK 3
LIVERPOOL 1 – CHELSEA 1

THE LEAD UP

There was no confusion over matchday reservations at the Pub this week with some 200 of you making reservations. There are still many logistics that OLSC Toronto and the pub are working on as we figure out this new partnership, but we’re really happy with the management’s willingness to work with us. We’ll have more good news to share on this front in the coming weeks!

On the team front, the conversations among Toronto Reds were many!

  • The Champion’s League draw and Liverpool being in this year’s “Group of Death” was a hot topic.
  • Will Robbo get an automatic spot on the starting line up after Tsimikas did such as great job convering him?
  • Will we see Elliott again in midfield?
  • The anticipation of our “Big F#$%ing Dutchman”, Virgil Van Dyke shutting down Chelsea’s new star player, Lukaku (which was a joy to behold)
  • And of course, the ending of the transfer window and the daily grind of baseless rumours…not to mention the mix of both support and criticism for FSGs and Klopp’s stance on new signings

You could feel the energy in the hours before the match as all these were the buzz among Toronto Fans who joined us at the pub or on our social media channels.

COVID protocols are still making the in-pub experience difficult for the serving staff and some fans. The pub’s challenge is obeying municipal and provincial guidelines in the current state of restriction, which means they must spread fans to different areas of the pub. We can’t all pack in like we used to; however, we’re fortunate that the current OLSC Toronto team found a pub that has multiple floors and both indoor and outdoor seating with ample screens to watch the match.

Fans were spread across this very large pub in downtown Toronto to watch Liverpool FC take on Chelsea (some were even getting sun tans while doing it!). But fear not Reds, soon we’ll all be sitting on top of each other!

MATCHDAY LIVE

What else can be said about the match itself?  VVD and Matip were a bloody wall at the back and if not for a very lucky header, we’d have gone into half time one up instead of 1-1.

But it’s the red card and subsequent penalty kick by The Egyptian King that got us fans singing. Check out the clip posted to our Instagram account below for a sample.

The second half, with a man advantage, did not give us the result we were all expecting but the atmosphere and comradery among Toronto Reds was still the same; songs were sung, cheers and gasps were heard, and new friendships and bonds made.  And as always, a number of fans stayed for hours after the match to catch up on old friendships and continue the banter. Check out the pictures below for a sense of the community we’re fostering at each matchday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOE!

We were also thrilled to see Joe Murphy, Scouser and OLSC Toronto Member out with his family to celebrate his 80th Birthday! We can’t think of a better way to do so than enjoying a matchday experience with fellow Reds.

AND THE WINNER IS….

And finally, as with every Premier League match this season, the Official Liverpool Supporters Club of Toronto conducted its half-time member draw. This time we gave away a 2021/22 LFC kit bag to member Phil Serrazin. Check out the live draw video below.
