Liverpool vs Brighton Premier League Matchday Recap #10

Liverpool FC vs Brighton Hove Albion should have been a “easy game” for Mo Salah and company, especially with Bobby back in the line up and Keita and Hendo in the midfield. Despite the bookies predicting this to be a 1-1 draw, we were hopeful. We’d already forgotten our match against Brentford, still basking in the glow of thrashing Man U.

Man City went down to Crystal Palace, Ole’s still at the wheel, we’re still unbeaten and in 2nd place with many, many more games to play….but few in the pub were feeling satisfied. This one hurt; points were dropped.

LIVERPOOL FC  2 – BRIGHTON HOVE ALBION 2

The game opened positively with a huge pass from VVD out to Mo Salah on the wing, who queued up Henderson for one of his now-patented thunderbolts to the top corner from the top of the box.

Then The Ox, in for a once-again-injured Keita, crossed the ball in to the head of Mane for a 2nd goal before half time.

Yet, Brighton – as with most successful teams against Liverpool – sat back, absorbed the pressure and looked for counter attack opportunities. And they came when our midfield just seemed to lose control of the area, giving the Gulls too much room. A 2-2 draw from being up 2-0 certainly feels like 2 points lost instead of a point gained and a lossless streak maintained.

Well, at least 6 of the next 7 matches are at Anfield, so let’s hope that it will help to add a lot of 3-points to the win column!

GOOD MEMORIES

Must say that our home pub’s atmosphere was still pretty amazing, with our own Kop signing and chanting, keeping everyone up despite what was happening on the pitch.

The Madison has pretty much sorted out the technical issues that plagued us at the start of the season. Hours before the match and all screens were playing DAZN, coffee was brewed and hot, and the smell of sausage, eggs, and beans greeted early guests seeking to lay claim on their favorite seats.

Yvi, our OLSC secretary came early and dressed for the occasion to set the mood; those banners don’t hang themselves!

WELCOME TO TORONTO

Each week we discover a lot of traveling Reds from outside the GTA and around the globe! It’s one of the best parts of volunteering for this fan club, getting to meet and engage with so many fans. This week we met David Bradley and his wife who traveled in from Stoney Creek to watch the match with us and Jack (see photo), another “Scouser in the pub!”  Jack is in Toronto on business and will be joining us for a few matches. If you get the chance to speak with him, do so! His stories are amazing.

DISCLAIMER: Without her Sambuca-swilling cohorts, Yvi had me join her in the tradition of Sambuca shots with every goal (it would have been rude for a gentlemen to let a lady drink alone). That, plus a breakfast consisting of Guinness, and, well, this.
