I was practically floating into the pub this morning with the knowledge that West Ham took down Chelsea. The door was swung open for us to walk through. Liverpool FC were given the chance to go atop the league by beating Wolverhampton.
I raced through the pub hanging banners, greeting fellow Reds, getting my game face on...I was pumped. But with every passing moment watching how Liverpool were frustrated at every turn and all those missed opportunities...a feeling of dread came over me. I started calculating the league table with a nil-nil score line. Was I too cocky? Did I jinx this?

MATCHDAY – WEEK 14
WOLVERHAMPTON 0 - LIVERPOOL FC 1
This was not a match to be proud of, if we're being honest.
Alisson made a few incredible saves but was not as confident as he usually is.
Alexander-Arnold and Robertson without an assist, although Robbo served up a beauty to Salah that should have seen the back of the net.
Dunno what to say here. I suspect the boos from his former club's fans may have got the best of him. Or too much birthday cake this morning?
This man was so in-form that people were starting to ask "Bobby Who?!" But not today. Everything was off. If it not for he late goal by Origi, I may not have been able to forgive him shooting at the two defenders huddled in the middle of the Wolves' net when there were miles of open space on either side of them. It was likely harder for him to hit those defenders than the open net?!
Fabinho and Salah were kept quiet by an excellent Wolves' defense that held them so close they might as well have been wearing the same kits. The King will be trying to shower the yellow off his skin for the next week. But credit where credit is due: Salah was everyone on the pitch despite the pressure and did serve up the assist for the winning goal.
Hendo has been Boss of late, playing as a right-winger as is usual these last few weeks but did not distribute the ball as effectively as we've come to expect.
But, frankly, who cares about all that?!
Brought on to be a target man when the starting 11 could not break through the lines as they usually do. But he ended up taking matters into his own hands with a controlled spin and goal, shooting with his left foot!
And to think...Divock was up for sale this summer?!
Here are the highlights. But who are we kidding, we just want to see that set up and goal again. I've set the highlights to Origi's goal to save you all the trouble of skipping ahead.
Another early morning game had people streaming in throughout the match. Everyone was on the edge of their seats; the frustration was palpable in the faces and body language of all gathered at The Madison.
The usual singing and chanting was silenced, replaced by expletives and groans with every passing minute.
The early morning coffee and tea turned quickly to pints as everyone sought solace in something other than what was happening on the pitch.
With apologies to the cleaning crew, much of that beer ended up all over the floor, walls, and ceiling when Divock did what Divock does...score a last minute thriller!
90 minutes of angst and stress were released in a celebration that was likely heard by our friends out in Boston.
Just when I started regretting getting out of bed, Divock scores and the exuberance of the celebration was akin to any of his other critical goals in the Champion's League or against Everton.
It reminded me why I get my ass out of bed every match day and join my Red Family. There was no place else I would rather have been at that moment.
"Football is life."
