3 Takeaways from Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City
3 Takeaways from Liverpool's 3-1 Win over Manchester City
Well, it’s been a minute since we’ve chatted, huh?
The anticipation of another exciting year, especially after the disappointment of not winning the Champions League Final (notice I didn’t say lose the final, something I don’t think we did), was palatable. I could hear it in the voices of fans on our social media chats and in the faces of our team in our weekly Zoom planning meetings.

SAM'S MATCH NOTES
Nunez makes a statement
The pre-season match had the Charity Shield trophy up for grabs but the actual narrative here was the head-to-head battle between the two star strikers brought in by the Premier League titans: Man City’s Erling Haaland and LFC’s Darwin Nunez.
You’ve all watched the match or the highlights so let’s skip to the end: The much-touted Haaland (that many Reds wished was brought to LFC) failed to score; Darwin changed the game with the limited time he had on the pitch after coming on off the bench, winning a penalty and scoring a header to seal a 3-1 victory for Liverpool.
Nunez received some unfair criticism for his pre-season performance to date so with a little more at stake, he made a statement, showing all those armchair critics who have never played any football other than possibly a little kickball in high school, that he’s the real deal.
And that Klopp and the management know what they’re doing.
[Give me a minute while I roll my eyes at all the FSGOUT fairweather fans.]

OK, I feel better now.]
Klopp wins every domestic cup available
And if anyone still doubts that Klopp is (or will soon become) our greatest manager, the gaffer completed his domestic trophy set with this win, the 100th edition of the Charity Shield.
He made us a promise. He said we’d believe. He delivered.
We haven’t won every final he’s driven us to but that somehow feels irrelevant. Those of us who have been fans for some time know that there were many years, pre-Klopp, that was devoid of hope.
No longer. We are believers. And not because of our star players, because Klopp said so.
I’m so happy Jurgen is a Red!
Millie's Beard
James Milner’s facial hair has stolen a lot of the spotlight from the new arrivals at Anfield, and rightly so.
We struggled to score three goals against Manchester City last season but Millie grows some man-scruff and we dominate the game against a Haaland-led front line?
Co-incidence? I think not.
I think Mighty Red needs to be looking over his shoulder. Our mascot this season might very well be the Milly Beard.
Back in the Pub
The new season also brings us Toronto Reds back to the pub!
This year, the Official Liverpool Supporters Club announced that our home pubs will be The Elephant and Castle on King and Simcoe Streets in downtown Toronto and the Slye Fox in Burlington, ON for those of you out west.
And based on this first pre-season viewing, it seems the right decision was made!
The feedback we’ve received from those who joined at the pub, as well as the incredible photos posted on social media, prove we made the right decision.
Thanks to all of you for all the support!

Darwin Nunez was the standout but we had some other exciting new talent on show this last week. Feeling optimistic about the season ahead. YNWA
